[Case Study] Complete Healing of an Inflamed Neck Cyst in a Man in His 20s – No Scar 4 Years After Punch Excision
The patient was a man in his 20s.
He had noticed a lump on the back of his neck about six months earlier. Two days prior to his visit, it suddenly enlarged, became red, and caused severe pain.
Looking for a clinic that could perform surgery even with inflammation, he found our clinic online and visited us from another prefecture.
We performed a punch excision to remove the cyst and were able to completely extract the capsule.
For postoperative wound care, we used the Natsui-style moist wound healing method, so no disinfectants were applied.
There was no infection, and no antibiotics were necessary.
The patient was allowed to shower and bathe daily starting the day after surgery, and was able to return to his normal life right away.
Four years later, the patient returned to our clinic for an unrelated reason.
We were able to examine his neck again, and the surgical site was completely unnoticeable. He kindly allowed us to take a photo.
He commented:
“I can’t even tell where I had the surgery. That’s amazing.”
This case demonstrates that even inflamed epidermoid cysts can heal beautifully with the proper surgical technique and wound care.
We hope this will be helpful for those considering surgery for similar conditions.
